SUMMARY OF FOX AUTORENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Here is a summary of our main terms and conditions which you should read carefully. A full version of our car rental terms and conditions can be found in a downloadable PDF and will be given to you when collecting your car.

USING OUR CARS

1. The information you give us at the time of reserving and collecting your car (minibus or commercial vehicle) should be accurate. This includes any information about other persons who will be driving the vehicle.
2. When you rent a car (minibus or commercial vehicle) from Fox-Autorent it can only be used for the purpose for which it is intended. THe following uses are excluded:
   

   i)    To take part in sporting events
   ii)   Vehicle testing purposes
   iii)   Driving Off-Road 
   iv)  Towing another vehicle
   v)   Transporting goods or people for commercial profit. (Our commercial vehicles can be used for the transporting of goods)
   vi)  Any illegal or criminal activity
   

3. You may invalidate your insurance as well as face criminal prosectution if you do so. 
4. You are not allowed to drive our vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drugs. (In Hungary there is zero tolerance)
5. You undertake to comply with the Highway Codes of the countr(y/ies) in which you are driving.
6. You will need a Cross Border Permit if you intend to travel further than the borders of Hungary. This is for insurance purposes. Please ask at the time of collecting your car.
7. From February 1, 2009 a licence fee is payable on all car rentals in Hungary. This will be added to your quotation and final invoice. 

  COLLECTING AND RETURNING YOUR VEHICLE [top]

1. The minimum period for which you can rent a Fox-Autorent car (minibus or commercial vehicle) is for 24 hours although you can return the vehicle earlier than this. No refund will be given.
2. Cars should be returned at the time quoted on your rental agreement. If you are going to be late, please
   phone our reservation staff +36 1 382 9000. If you do not contact us, or, we have another customer waiting
   for your car you will be charged an extra day's rental.
3. At the time of collection, the car will be inspected by a representative of Fox-Autorent to check for any previous damage to the vehicle and whether the fuel tank is full. The renter is expected to accompany our representative and check that his/her report is accurate. Once the the renter signs the inspection report, he/she is liable for any subsequent damage to the car when the return inspection is carried out.
4. Any additional equipment issued at the start of the rental (roof rack, child seat, GPS, etc.) must be returned in its original condition otherwise a charge will be made for its replacement or repair.
5. If your GPS system fails to work properly you should immediately ring our help line (+36 1 382 9000) who will give you assistance. If you do not do so then you will still be required to pay the charge for the full rental period.
6. You must return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel otherwise we will fill the tank and charge it to your credit card together with an administrative charge of €10. 
7. Your car (minibus or commercial vehicle) should be returned in a clean condition both inside and outside. Fox-Autorent reserves the right to make a cleaning charge where this is not the case.
8. Please return the vehicle registration documents at the end of the rental period. You should keep your original rental documents with you until the end of the rental period. If you lose your car documents, a charge of HUF 25.000 is payable.
9. Our normal office hours are 8am - 8pm. If you require collection and delivery of your car (minibus or commercial vehicle)or delivery to another address, an additional charge will be made. Please ask for details.

USE OF MOTORWAYS

1. Motorways in Hungary require you to have a Matricia which is valid for 4 days, 10 days or 1 month. These are widely available at garages throughout Hungary and now there is an electronically registered process.
2. You should always register your car if you intend to use the motorways. If you find a vignette in the car bought by a previous renter which still appears to be valid you use it at your own risk!  Please keep your proof of purchase for at least 3 months.
3. If you are caught without a matricia, the fines are very heavy and we will deduct the amount from your credit card plus an administrative fee. Other countries have similar charging systems or operate toll booths.

BREAKDOWNS AND ACCIDENTS   [top]

 

1. If your car (minibus or commercial vehicle) breaks down, you should call our 24 hour breakdown hotline +36 1 382 9001 (or +36 1 382 9000 during normal office hours) where we will arrange for your vehicle to repaired or replaced depending on the circumstances. This service is normally provided by the manufacturer of the car as it is under warranty.
2. If the vehicle breaks down as a result of a mechanical malfunction, Fox-Autorent will pay all the costs incurred in repairing and replacing the vehicle and recovery (if required).
3. If the breakdown has occured as a result of an accident, Fox-Autorent will arrange for the necessary services to be provided but payment for them will be the responsibility of the renter up to a maximum of HUF 100.000.
4. If we are called out to problem which can fix yourself e.g. a puncture, fuel tank or windscreen washers empty, etc. you will be charged a fee based on the call-out fee of the company supplying the rescue service. 
5. Damage to tyres and windows including the costs of fitting and replacements are additional responsibilities of the renter.
6. If you have an accident, it is important to fill in the Accident form provided with your documents. If the other driver admits responsibility and signs to that effect, you will not loose your deposit.  If the other driver refuses to do so you should call in the police who will decide who is at fault. If this is the case, please ensure that you bring this police report with you otherwise you risk losing your deposit whether you are at fault or not.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RENTER

1. At the beginning of the rental period, a sum of money is blocked out from your credit card depending on the insurance option you have selected. (This amount is increased for certain higher categories of cars and minibuses. You will be advised about this at the start of your rental).
2. You may be required to pay an amount up to this sum under the following circumstances:

   i)    You have an accident and you are found to be at fault
   ii)   Repairs/replacement of windows and tyres
   iii)  Theft of equipment as a result of break-in to the vehicle
   

   (Please note that if you have more than one accident during the rental period, each accident will be treated as a separate incident for which a sum upto the level of excess stated in the insurance option you have chosen may be payable).
3. If you have an accident whilst driving the car and alcohol or drugs are involved, you will be liable for the complete repair or full replacement value of the car and any subsequent claims by other injured parties.
4. If you give us misleading information when renting your car which invalidates your insurance, you will be liable for the full cost of repair or replacement of the car (minibus or commercial vehicle) should the circumstance arise.
5. If the car is stolen and was locked, you maximum limit will be HUF 100.000. If, however, you leave the car unlocked and/or the car registration documents in the car (and/or keys) you may be responsible for the full replacement value of the car (minibus or commercial vehicle).  

ROAD TRAFFIC AND PARKING FINES  [top]

1. If you incur a penalty for parking, speeding or some other traffic offence, these will be sent to us as owners of the car. The amounts charged will be deducted from your credit card plus an administrative charge. There is no limit on these amounts.
2. Please note that traffic offences in other countries in the EU will also be collected from us and they too will becharged to your credit card.
